I really do have fun with most any baking/decorating project I work on...but as Fall happens to be my absolute favorite season...I truly had a wonderful time decorating this Fall/Autumn themed Birthday cake for a special lady's 60th! Rich, chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream filling, covered in fondant with all hand formed fondant details.
This was a challenging cake, true - but I so enjoyed pulling this look together one cake tier at a time! Flavors were pumpkin spice with cinnamon cream cheese filling, red velvet with cream cheese filling, vanilla buttermilk with lemon swiss meringue filling and chocolate with vanilla swiss meringue filling, all covered with fondant, with fondant and hand painted details. The roses atop the cake were purchased silk flowers to match the ones decorating the table.
Oh my, was this a fun challenge! Before attempting this cake, I'd never made any of these gum paste flowers so it was a learning experience to be sure! Alternating layers of red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and pumpkin spice cake with cinnamon cream cheese filling, covered in fondant with hand made gum paste flowers. Loved the finished work!
Wow, chocoholics rejoiced when this cake came about! I was asked to create a birthday cake for a Dad who loves chocolate - well, that's right up my alley! I decided to pair chocolate truffle cake with chocolate swiss meringue buttercream filling and frosting, dark chocolate ganache drizzle and dark chocolate sprinkles...there, that should do it! :)
I love when I'm allowed to "just go with it" ;) Such was the case with this Birthday cake - flavors were vanilla buttermilk with vanilla buttercream filling and chocolate truffle cake with mocha buttercream filling and a layer of crunchy chocolate pearls too - mmm! I had always thought these colors would be lovely together and had such fun putting this lovely little cake together :)
So, I had the most difficult time deciding what I wanted to attempt for this year's State Fair entry!! I had so many ideas rumbling around in my head! When I finally decided to attempt hydrangeas using Petalsweet's wonderful three-part tutorial (and they thankfully turned out decently enough!) my mind was made up. I covered my styrofoam layers with dark brown chocolate fondant (which was a workout!!), then placed two hydrangea bunches on alternating sides of my cake and edged each tier with a brown ribbon. It might've been simple, but I was so pleased with how it came out and very happy to have learned something new along the way! :) I was also beyond thrilled to learn I had won a 3rd place ribbon for my simple little cake!
I had a blast working on this request - from one of my #1 fans...my not-so-little guy who turned 11 :) He LOVES the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and had asked that I make a book cake for his birthday this year - so I did and had so much fun working on it! Thought I'd throw in some cupcakes to match as well with "The cheese touch!!!" Can't believe another year has come and gone. :(
Lovely little candy themed birthday celebration! The cake was almond pound cake with vanilla buttercream filling, covered in vanilla buttercream and fondant details. The cupcakes were strawberry with vanilla buttercream and vanilla bean with oreo buttercream and fondant candy toppers :)
Fun, fun, FUN Tangled Birthday party for a special little girl turning 3! My first attempt at a tower cake with matching cupcakes as well :) The cake was chocolate with vanilla buttercream filling, covered in fondant with fondant details. The cupcakes were vanilla buttermilk with vanilla buttercream and custom fondant toppers (did I mention how much fun I had?)
Fun cake and cupcakes designed to match the Birthday girl's invitations and shirt for her special day! Cake was fluffy vanilla with vanilla buttercream filling and strawberry with cream cheese filling, covered in vanilla buttercream with fondant details. Cupcakes were chocolate with vanilla buttercream and custom fondant toppers. :)
